Jane Frances Zimmerman was born on August 18, 1926, in New Orleans, LA to Byron A Armstrong and Frances Berdami Armstrong. She passed away July 9, 2024, in Glendale, AZ. She was an only child.
Jane is preceded in death by her first husband Herbert P. Pursell, their baby daughter, and her second husband, C. Nathan Zimmerman. She is survived by four children - Frances (Michael Lewis), Ellen (Wil Higgerson), Patti Stallman, and Charles Pursell. She is also survived by five grandchildren - Eleanor, Liz, Courtney, Taylor, and Rebecca.
Jane graduated from Sophie Newcomb College (Tulane University) with a degree in Chemistry at a time when women earning degrees in science was rather novel. She met Herbert Pursell at school, and they married in 1951 in New Orleans. She and Herbert had 5 children. Adventure then saw her living in many additional places - Carlsbad, NM, Baton Rouge, LA, Libertyville, IL, Terre Haute, IN, West Chester, PA where she met her second husband Nate Zimmerman. She and Nate finally settled down in Sun City West, AZ. She certainly considered herself a bit of a gypsy. But she was always a New Orleans gal at heart.
Jane was a fun loving, unique, and free-spirited woman. Her love for travel took her all over the US and throughout the world. She loved her “go-fers”. If anyone was going for a ride (car, plane, cruise, anything), she wanted to go too. She enjoyed having children living different places as it gave her more destinations to visit.
Jane loved hosting large Christmas gatherings at her Sun City West home. She was at her happiest when all her “chicks” were together. Nothing delighted her more than having all her family gathered around. She always said she felt so lucky because her family all liked to be together with her.
Jane loved to go camping and did so well into her 90s. She rode her three-wheel bike around the neighborhood stopping to chat with everyone and pet all the dogs. She never met a dog she didn’t like! She livened things up everywhere she went and really never met a stranger. She was a most generous person; always helping out where needed. She is greatly missed. The world will not be the same without her in it.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:30 am at Camino Del Sol Funeral home. 13738 W. Camino Del Sol, Sun City West, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Benevilla Services (benevilla.org) or Hospice of the Valley (hov.org). Please join the family in sharing pictures, memories or videos on the tribute wall for Jane at www.caminodelsol.com.
