Goyeneche: "Officers sucked into the vortex of Mayor Cantrell."

Mayor Latoya Cantrell and Officer Jeffery Vappie were already in hot water, now three other NOPD officers have been thrown into the pot.

One analyst and expert in police department procedure says it's indicative of what happens if one gets too close to all the swirls the Mayor. Rafael Goyeneche, former Assistant District Attorney, spoke with WWL’s Tommy Tucker.

“These officers have been sucked into the vortex that surrounds the mayor.”

The NOPD officers are facing investigation for their roles in Cantrell obtaining sensitive information about a private citizen. This information should be for law enforcement eyes only.

Goyeneche says it is possible they did this unknowingly and the investigation will have to reveal that.

“She (Cantrell) now has drug these officers into this case that was meritless to begin with.”

The Metropolitan Crime Commission President says; however, he doesn't see them coming out of this totally unscathed.

“They face the possibility of sanctions from the New Orleans Police Department.”
