NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Worldwide technology problems on Friday, July 19 are causing a strain on several daily operations, affecting many in Louisiana.
The global technology outage grounded flights, knocked banks offline and media outlets off air after a faulty software update disrupted companies and services around the world and highlighted their dependence on just a handful of providers.
The trouble with the update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike and affecting computers running Microsoft Windows was not a security incident or cyberattack , according to CrowdStrike, which said a fix was on the way.
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry posted on X about the outage, saying “We are aware of the Microsoft outage issue, and we are in contact with all Louisiana departments to ensure everyone is still able to properly do their job and address any essential issues. We look forward to this being quickly resolved.”
Flights
In Louisiana, hundreds of passengers are facing flights delays at the Louis Armstrong International Airport. Airlines, including American, United and Delta, are among those who have been impacted.
A global technology issue is impacting several airlines across the world today, and many airlines at Louis Armstrong International Airport are experiencing delays as a result. Each airline is making decisions about their flight operations based on their individual impacts. Passengers are advised to check directly with their airlines for the most up-to-date information and be prepared for possibly longer wait times.
Some concessions in the terminal are also impacted by the outage. The concessions operators are working to get systems up and running again so they may resume service as soon as possible.
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles posted on X that due to the outage, services like refreshing licenses, adding a license, ordering duplicates/renewals and previously linked credentials are not available at this time.
Additionally, customers who had appointments scheduled for Friday are asked to reschedule.
