Low water pressure expected between S. Claiborne, Napoleon Ave on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Areas in the Central Business District of New Orleans are expected to experience lower-than-normal water pressure on Saturday, July 20.
According to the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, the reduced water pressure will come as a result of of crews performing a test water valve closure on a 48-inch transmission main on S. Claiborne Avenue and Napoleon Avenue in preparation for an upcoming construction closure on a later date.
Weather permitting, the test will begin on at 8 a.m. and last around 4 hours.
The transmission main supplements a considerable portion of the water supply to the Central Business District, explaining why its closure could cause the pressure reduction.
The East Bank utilizes six such water mains, meaning that there are redundancies to supply water despite tomorrow’s closure.
The SWBNO expects a significant drop in pressure but reports that crews will be monitoring water pressure levels throughout the city. If pressures fall below 20 PSI, the public will be notified of a precautionary boil water advisory.
The reduced pressure may be especially noticeable in upper floors of multi-story buildings.
Those experiencing very low or no water pressure are asked to call the SWBNO Emergency Call Center at 504-52-WATER. The SWBNO is open 24 hours a day, every day.
