Now that a former New Orleans Police officer who has been close to New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is under federal indictment, when we will hear any news from a separate investigation into the mayor herself? Word from federal court could be coming soon.

"This is the first step," said New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission President Rafael Goyeneche.

Goyeneche says it looks like a federal grand jury, going over subpoenas issued more than two years ago, is getting close to finishing its investigation.

"The appointment of this grand jury ends in the middle of next month," explained Goyeneche. "So, I think that when the government starts issuing indictments, you can expect to see a series of indictments."

Goyeneche says the mayor hiring Eddie Castaing, a well-known criminal defense lawyer, also says a lot.

"I think the mayor anticipates that she's going to need a criminal defense attorney, and I think she's probably right," Goyeneche said.
