    New Orleans Police Department mourns loss of oldest horse after 20 years of service

    NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The New Orleans Police Department’s Mounted Unit is mourning the loss of its oldest horse, Elvis, who died on Monday, July 22. He was 26.

    According to the NOPD, Elvis “faithfully served” the Mounted Unit for over 20 years after being brought to the unit from Angola State Penitentiary in 2001.

    Many officers referred to the red Rhone, Warm Blood as a “noble ambassador” for the city of New Orleans.
