Natchez Film Co’s ‘Postal Parasites’ places 3rd overall in 48 Hour Film Project: New Orleans competition

Natchez Film Co’s “Postal Parasites placed third overall out of the 29 teams who registered in the 48 Hour Film Project: New Orleans.

The 48-Hour Film Project is a global event that happens in more than 100 cities on different weekends throughout the year. As the name suggests, the competing teams create a short film over one weekend to be judged by local judges of the city in which they are entered.

Contestants receive their film contest rules during a Friday night kickoff party. Then it is off to the races — writing, shooting and editing and doing whatever it takes to submit their film on Sunday night.

Natchez Film Co. entered the New Orleans competition June 7 through 9.

Of all 29 entries, only two were submitted late, 48 Hour Film Project: New Orleans, shared.

“That was the best we have ever done since 2007,” they said.

In addition to winning third place overall, Postal Parasites brought home eight different first-place prizes after being nominated in 11 award categories, including Best Directing and Best Cinematography, the group shared in its social media page.

The plot of “Postal Parasites” centers around a pair of struggling filmmakers who resort to package thievery to fund their movie, according to IMDb.

More than a dozen awards are given in the competition but the topmost films earn more exposure.
