    Two NOPD officers injured while responding to disturbance involving a chainsaw in Gentilly

    NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Three people, including two New Orleans police officers, were injured during a disturbance call in Gentilly on Monday, July 22.

    The New Orleans Police Department reported officers responded to a call at the 1200 block of Riviera Avenue of a 70-year-old woman whose arm had allegedly been cut off with a chainsaw around 2 p.m.

    Two officers then went to a home in the 3500 block of Franklin Avenue, where they reportedly found a man who NOPD investigators identified as the suspect, 34-year-old John Pittman.

    According to the NOPD, Pittman allegedly attacked officers while they tried to arrest him. He was then taken into custody

    NOPD officials said the suspect is believed to be the woman’s son.

    Both officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and are in stable condition. The victim was also taken to a hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition.
