Arson suspected in Lake Street garbage fires, fire department says
MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities suspect several garbage fires on Minneapolis' West Lake Street Monday morning were intentionally set.One such fire spread to a building on the 900 block of West Lake Street just before 3:30 a.m., according to the Minneapolis Fire Department. Crews responded, searched the building and put out the fire. No one was injured, but a residence inside the building was deemed uninhabitable. The building also contained a business, which is now boarded up.While fighting that fire, the department learned of additional garbage fires on West Lake Street. An employee of a nearby business told police he saw someone setting the fires. Minneapolis police responded and detained a man, the fire department said.

CenterPoint Energy Launches Extensive Gas Line Replacement Project Across Minneapolis Neighborhoods
Minneapolis residents can expect a flurry of activity from CenterPoint Energy as they embark on a significant project to replace aging natural gas lines across several neighborhoods. According to an update released by CenterPoint Energy, this initiative, which runs from 2023 through 2025, aims to install more corrosion-resistant pipes and improve the city's gas infrastructure. Commencing on July 22 and stretching into early August, Northrop will see the replacement of small-diameter natural gas plastic mains, and the relocation of meters from inside to outside of homes, affecting several streets including parts of 43rd and 44th Streets E. from Chicago Avenue S. to 10th Avenue S., along with a stretch of 46th Street E.

Minneapolis Park Workers' Strike Enters Third Week, Prompting Concert Cancellations and Unfair Labor Charge
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's (MPRB) workers represented by Local 363 continue their strike for the third consecutive week, with no resolution in sight despite ongoing mediation efforts. An official statement released by the MPRB on July 19th detailed the current status of negotiations and operations. The statement outlined that around 54% of Local 363 park workers remain on the job amidst the labor dispute and that forestry crews have been diligently responding to tree-related service calls following a recent storm. Despite these efforts, a $1.4 million wage gap persists between the proposals of the MPRB and Local 363.
