Frozen with Desire Diamond Sculpture at Art Miami

    2022-11-10

BRENDAN MURPHY | FROZEN WITH DESIRE

A Captivating Sculpture with 6,200 Shimmering Diamonds

    By Gabriel Delgado

For centuries, humanity has gazed at the stars and dreamed of discovery. The continual exploration of space has been a symbol of an unharnessed spirit, pushing us to achieve feats that once seemed impossible – reaching to infinity and beyond.

Brendan Murphy’s newest Boonji Spaceman sculpture, "Frozen with Desire”, captures this euphoric spirit of hope and discovery with a grandiose artistic creation that bedazzles and gleams like the wonderous celestial bodies in the nighttime sky.

“Frozen with Desire” showcases a stunning array of picture-perfect precious stones, 6,200 shimmering diamonds to be exact, which adorn the 42-inch blue spaceman figure’s helmet and visor - equating to 517-carats.

With such an ecliptic opportunity for the international art market, Burgess Projects is thrilled to announce the exhibition of "Frozen with Desire” at Art Miami 2022. Booth AM425 is a visual dedication to everything Brendan Murphy - serving as a solo exhibition, showcasing this sumptuous Eighth Wonder of the World.

Taking almost twelve months to complete, the dazzling spaceman features a unique cobalt blue chrome finish adorned with Murphy’s signature written statistical formulas in white and blue letters. An antithesis of sorts for the practical 24k gold coating on an astronaut's helmet, a protective layer that blocks the sun’s harmful UV rays—Murphy’s "Frozen with Desire” diamonds are eloquent in their unobscured vision. Alluring with a conjectural gravitational pull that draws the viewer closer, the spaceman’s refinement sets all senses ablaze.

Not so easily equaled in its limitless glory, "Frozen with Desire” indeed exists in the physical, born from an alternate universe…a paradoxical reality where Damien Hirst meets Cristóbal Balenciaga. A top 1%-er eye candy, this sculpture is on an unearthly elevated level of indulgence as the world’s second most diamond-intensive artwork, only rivaled by Hirst’s “For the Love of God” sculpture, a human skull adorned with 8,601 diamonds that sold for $100 million USD.

"Frozen with Desire" is an intimate work of art that is lavishly embellished with 6,200 diamonds. It is one of the most astonishing displays of natural beauty that I have ever seen. The level of detail and craftsmanship that went into this sculpture is truly astonishing, and it is a testament to the skill of the artist who created it. The sculpture is a reminder of the power of nature, and it is a stunning example of the human ability to create art that captures the unfathomable beauty of the natural world…as well as a tribute to the creative genius of mankind that allowed humans to explore outer space”, says Lisa Burgess of Burgess Projects.

Brendan Murphy is a widely known contemporary artist whose work is represented in over 600 private collections. His work pushes the boundaries of creativity, exploring sculptural pieces, conceptual works, and a wide range of rare materials. Brendan Murphy is an important voice in the contemporary art world, and his work will continue to provoke and delight viewers for years to come.

“I wanted to create a “time capsule” worthy piece” states Murphy. “Something that both represents my work as well as the moment in time in which we are living. Using materials that are millions of years old and combining them with a very iconic symbol of our generation seemed to make sense to me. The visual and emotional impact this piece creates when you stand before it is hard to describe and has exceeded my wildest expectations”.
