Westchester's largest-ever mural has been completed after a months-long painting process.

The mural, created by Na’ye Perez and titled "From the Source," was painted on the north façade of 500 Main St. in downtown New Rochelle and is now complete as of Monday, July 22.

The 20-story-tall mural was commissioned by BRP Companies and was painted to honor Black and Brown communities in New Rochelle.

Perez explained his thinking behind the artwork: "The mural is depicted as a collage reminiscing my body of work of paintings and drawings...The works selected to create the mural are mixed media works that use traditional materials such as charcoal, chalk, conte, and acrylic paints alongside found materials such as brown papers, discarded plastic, lino block prints, and gel transfers of communities within New Rochelle."

"The works will speak to the narrative of the city that these cherished residents are apart and contribute to. The narratives shown are born out of love for my community and family, exploring day-to-day moments of life, emphasizing Black and Brown presence as intimacy, care, love, and resilience," Perez continued.

The artwork was hand-painted over a period of two months by Brooklyn-based Colossal Media, an artist-founded company that aims to support outdoor advertising.

According to the company, the same mural painting process used by Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel was used to create "From the Source."
