Double Festival Weekend
NELSONVILLE — The Black Diamond Music and Arts Festival and the Starbrick Music Festival joined forces this year to be one big weekend of music and fun Friday and Saturday on the Hocking College campus, in Nelsonville. The Black Diamond Festival, featuring country style and bluegrass music, took their turn on Friday. Athens favorite, McGuffey Lane, was there to celebrate their 50th anniversary. There was plenty of good food and unique art on hand as well. The Starbrick Music Festival on Saturday mostly featured tribute bands including the music and the look of Kiss, Queen, Pink Floyd, and more. The Starbrick Music Festival raises funds for the Chris Roell TBI Foundation, which raises awareness of traumatic brain injuries.

LOGAN — The city of Logan on Wednesday, June 12 rescinded a boil order that it had issued on Monday, June 10 for North Orchard and Orchard Place. This had been the second boil order for this part of the city in quick succession, with a previous boil order for the same area having been announced on June 5 and rescinded on June 7.

COLUMBUS — On Tuesday, America 250-Ohio, the official state commission charged with leading Ohio’s recognition of the semiquincentennial, awarded $600,000 in grants for 61 community-based projects as part of the commission’s second funding cycle. City firefighters put out small fire at the post office Monday morning
LANCASTER − City firefighters extinguished a small fire at the downtown post office Monday morning. Assistant Fire Chief Slade Schultz said postal employees reported smoke in the basement around 8:05 in the building at Broad and Chestnut streets. Firefighters found light smoke coming from a basement door when they arrived.
Leavitt named Assistant AD for Compliance
Hocking College Athletics announced that Associate Head Football Coach Tate Leavitt will take over as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Leavitt has been a part of the Hocking College Football staff since August of 2023 as the Offensive Coordinator and previously was part of the compliance staff at former NCAA Division II insitution Alderson-Broaddus University. "We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Tate's caliber joining our staff at Hocking," said Hocking Director of Athletics Rick Walker. "Tate's experience at his previous stops makes him the perfect person to step in and fill our complaince role. Tate will not only make our compliance staff stronger but will be a great fit with our Athletic Department staff."
