Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant returns for night two with ‘Christmas in July’ theme
JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s night two of the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant, and Thursday night’s theme was Christmas in July. “They decided to change it up every night. So each night there will be a different theme and I’ve never seen so many people excited about a different theme,” said Lashonda Williams with the Miss Volunteer Pageants.

AMR showing improvement in Knox County, but still has room to grow
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knox County data obtained by WVLT News show that ambulance response times in and around Knoxville are improving, but there’s still room to grow. The latest numbers come as American Medical Response (AMR) is about to enter its seventh month under a new contract. Leading up to that contract renewal, a WVLT News investigation uncovered hundreds of documents, emails and complaints from inside the county showing how dangerous the situation had become.

Man sentenced to 12 years in prison after deadly drag racing crash in January 2023
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by drag-racing in April, as well as other crimes, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison on Friday. Tra'Shawn Glass entered a blind plea in late April, meaning there was no recommended punishment term between him and Knox County prosecutors. He was also charged with drag racing and with assaults.

Volunteer’s Strickler returns to gridiron
CHURCH HILL — For the first time in more than a decade, Volunteer’s Jackie Strickler will be back on the sidelines for football season. The veteran softball coach has stepped in as an assistant on interim head coach Mike Castle’s football staff for the 2024 season. Strickler joins assistants Jeremy Jones, Wes Bowery, Josh Kincannon and Jeremy Sommers to round out Castle’s staff. Volunteer alumnus Joshua Sawyer will also help out in a non-faculty role.
