Gatlinburg’s $3M animal-resistant dumpster project nearing completion
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -On Friday, the City of Gatlinburg announced that the approximately $3 million animal-resistant dumpster project is almost complete. According to city representatives, the project aims to enhance sanitation, public safety, and ultimately reduce human-bear encounters. The city also said that the project is ahead of schedule. Originally, after launching in Nov. 2023, a full rollout of the program was anticipated by Dec. 2024 based on a monthly production schedule of 40 containers per month. The city has beat-out that projection, installing 454 dumpsters as of July 25, which breaks down to just under 51 containers per month.
