Montana man drowns near New Town

NEW TOWN, ND ( KXNET ) — A 74-year-old Sidney, Montana man drowned at the New Town Marina Thursday morning.

According to the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office, officers received a call around 10:12 a.m., July 18, of a man drowning. According to authorities, the man had apparently jumped off the dock at the marina in an effort to retrieve his boat, which had floated away.

In his effort to swim to his boat, the man apparently became distressed and disappeared under the water.

Emergency responders from New Town and Mountrail County searched for the man and, around 2:00 p.m., his body was located and recovered.
