There are several local cities and townships hosting parades and festivals this week in honor of Independence Day. Here are some of those events:. Oxford Parks & Recreation Freedom Festival: Salute to Freedom Parade at 6:30 p.m. July 2 starting on the corner of College Avenue and High Street in Oxford and continuing down High Street to Poplar Street. Enjoy Oxford hosts a concert at Uptown Park featuring the Bluewater Kings Bang at 7 p.m. On July 3, events at Oxford Community Park start at 5 p.m. with booths, music, food, gladiator jousts, inflatables, games, face painting and more. (Connersville, IN)--The family of Denise Pflum released a statement over the weekend after a Fayette County judge last week stopped their efforts to force the search of the property of Erika Johnson for Denise’s remains. The message indicates the Pflums will try another approach and urges the community to be patient until that happens. They are discouraging the efforts of some to organize a protest, saying that it will not sway the court’s position. They’re also asking that people not venture onto the Johnson property themselves in an effort to search. They say they have a team of search professionals waiting in the wings if and when a search is ever permitted.

First passed in 2000, the Indiana Safe Haven Law allows a person to surrender their infant anonymously without fear of arrest or prosecution. In 2017, Indiana expanded the Safe Haven Law to allow for baby boxes at hospitals, and in 2018 those locations were expanded to include fire stations with available 24/7 emergency medical services.
