Susquehanna Regional EMS earns award from American Heart/Stroke Association
Williamsport, Pa. — UPMC in North Central Pa.'s prehospital services team, the Susquehanna Regional EMS, recently received recognition from the American Heart/Stroke Association. The 2024 Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Achievement Award acknowledges the EMS team's continued success in using the Mission lifeline program, which showcases prehospital emergency responses to heart attacks and strokes. “This recognition demonstrates our team’s continued commitment to clinical excellence, providing outstanding care along with early notification to the emergency departments that they transport to,” said Tony Bixby, chief, SREMS, and director, Prehospital Services, UPMC in North Central Pa. “This great work has undoubtedly improved patient outcomes and saved lives throughout the north central region of Pa.”

HARRISBURG (KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Department of Education is teaming up with the national nonprofit uAspire to launch a free state-wide help desk to assist students and families with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Whitehall-Coplay School District officials showed off the newly finished Gockley Elementary School at 2940 MacArthur Road for the first time Sunday. The two-story, 93,000-square-foot building for the district's kindergarten and first-grade students replaces the old Gockley Elementary School at 2932 Zephyr Blvd., which was built in 1978.
CDC Investigates Multistate Listeria Outbreak Linked to Deli Meats in PA and other States
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating a multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes, which has so far affected 28 individuals across 12 states. According to the latest reports, all 28 infected individuals have been hospitalized, and there have been two fatalities linked to the outbreak—one in Illinois and another in New Jersey.

Update: Berks County under a flash flood warning Monday morning
An updated flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 6:07 a.m. in effect until 7:30 a.m. for Berks County. "At 6:07 a.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated showers and thunderstorms that produced between 1 and 4.5 inches of rain across the warned area have weakened and mostly moved to the south and east. Portions of Route 422 in Exeter Township are closed due to flash flooding," according to the weather service. "This includes Interstate 176 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 3 and 11."
