    New Ulm man airlifted after being struck by runaway tractor at campground

    A New Ulm man was airlifted with injuries after he was run over by a tractor that suddenly jumped into gear.

    The incident happened at Shirley's Park campground at 17434 Lakeside Road at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, with the Brown County Sheriff's Office saying the 57-year-old man was using an Allis Chalmers loader-tractor to remove a tree at the time.

    He was "was standing in front of the right rear tractor tire when it jumped into a forward gear," running him over.

    The tractor continued to move, striking a nearby camper trailer before causing "significant damage" when it hit a 2018 Chevy Equinox, and then damaged another Chevy SUV.

    A 72-year-old woman from Harlingen, Texas also suffered minor injuries when she was struck by an object during the incident.

    The 57-year-old man was airlifted from the scene to a hospital. There is no update on his condition.

    The incident is under investigation by police.
