Kanpai is set to open its doors at 183 Grand Street, bringing a fresh Japanese-American tavern experience to the heart of Nolita.

Named after the Japanese word for “cheers,” Kanpai aims to blend the convivial atmosphere of an American tavern with the refined flavors of Japanese cuisine.

Despite attempts to reach Co-Owner Jonathan Ross for comment, there has been no immediate response. However, details gleaned from a liquor license application and the restaurant’s official website reveal a vision for this new establishment.

Scott Edington and Faris Ghareeb are also listed in paperwork as owners of the project under the newly-forme business Talum, LLC , although Ghareeb tells What Now New York they are not involved in Kanpai.

Kanpai is poised to offer a “high-end” sushi dining experience, focusing on seating at the sushi bar to engage diners directly with the art of sushi making, according to its website.

The anticipated menu showcases a range of sushi and sashimi options, including:

    • Maki varieties such as Spicy Tuna Roll ($15), California Roll ($13), and exclusive creations like the Nolita Roll ($17).
    • Sashimi offerings at $3 per piece, featuring Yellow Tail, Fluke (Hirame), Sake Salmon, and Ahi Tuna.
    • A selection of starters including Wasabi Crispy Rice ($8) and Miso Soup ($6).
    • Ramen Noodles priced at $12, catering to those seeking a hearty, warm dish.

This location was previously earmarked for Tokyo Tavern , but plans have since shifted to make way for Kanpai.
