Renowned pastry chef Dominique Ansel , famed for inventing the cronut, has expanded his culinary footprint in New York City by securing a new bakery and café location, the New York Post is reporting .

Ansel has signed a fifteen-year lease for space at 64 University Place, a prestigious address within a luxury “boutique” condominium complex. The building, designed by the architectural firm KPF and developed through a collaboration between Argo Real Estate and Bsafal, Inc. , represents a blend of luxury and innovation in the heart of Manhattan.

The new site marks the third Manhattan location for Ansel’s growing bakery empire, joining his existing establishments in SoHo and Flatiron. This move is a testament to the enduring popularity of Ansel’s creations, from the iconic cronut to his wide array of other pastry offerings. Argo CEO Mark Moskowitz in comments to the Post expressed enthusiasm about the deal, highlighting the Ansel brand’s broad appeal, owing to its strong physical presence and expansive online delivery operation.

The lease agreement for the property was brokered by Newmark , with Jason Wecker representing the landlord and Adam Weinblatt acting on behalf of Ansel, according to the Post. The asking rent for the prime location was set at $250 per square foot, underscoring the premium value of space in Manhattan’s competitive real estate market.

Ansel’s decision to open another bakery in Manhattan underscores the chef’s commitment to expanding his culinary reach and the enduring appeal of his innovative creations among New Yorkers and visitors alike.
