Maki a Mano, a unique multi-concept restaurant blending diverse aspects of Japanese cuisine and culture, will open in Chelsea Market on March 8. The establishment will offer a trio of interconnected spaces, with each providing a distinct Japanese shopping, dining, and nightlife experience. With its emphasis on transformative encounters and attention to detail, Maki a Mano aims to take patrons on a journey through the flavors and culture of Japan.

Maki a Mano is made up of three spaces, Maki a Mano , N’Between , and Mini , which are seamlessly connected through a network of doors and passages.

    • Maki a Mano , meaning “roll by hand,” is a hand roll sushi bar with influences from Nikkei cuisine. Guests can indulge in chef-style counter service, savoring sashimi, ceviches, and tiraditos, with an emphasis on subtle flavors, quality ingredients, and craftsmanship.
    • N’Between offers a modern take on the traditional Izakaya concept. This bar space caters to those seeking a quick bite and a moment of respite between work and home. Guests can enjoy a selection of Japanese-crafted cocktails, whiskeys, and sakes while immersing themselves in the vibrant Hi-Fi sound system.
    • Mini , inspired by the popular Japanese convenience store concept known as “Konbini,” is a kakigori (shaved ice dessert) stand. Here, guests can indulge in special prepared foods, Japanese convenience staples, and a variety of drinks and snacks through quick self-service.

“We are thrilled to introduce Maki a Mano to the vibrant culinary scene of Chelsea Market,” said co-owner Peter Tondreau in a statement. “Our goal is to provide our guests with an unparalleled dining experience that transports them to the bustling streets of Tokyo. Through thoughtfully designed spaces and curated menus, we are confident that Maki a Mano will captivate and delight all who visit.”

Maki a Mano is the brainchild of co-owners Wanisa Tondreau, Peter Tondreau, and Victor Huang – all well-established New York restaurateurs. Peter Tondreau and Victor Huang have already made their mark in Chelsea Market with the success of Very Fresh Noodles, a Chinese artisanal noodle shop, and Tondreau’s ventures Bar Suzette and Big Tings.

Maki a Mano is located in the main concourse of Chelsea Market across from Posman Books and will open the restaurant on March 8, with the bar to follow. Opening hours for each concept are as follows: Maki A Mano: 12:00 PM – 7:30 PM; N’Between: 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM; Mini: 12:00 PM – 7:30 PM.
