The New York Rangers announced the signing of super-sized prospect Dylan Roobroeck to a three-year entry-level contract on Monday.

Per PuckPedia , the deal comes with an $850,000 AAV.

Selected in the sixth round (178th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old forward had an excellent campaign for the Oshawa Generals this past season. In 68 regular-season games, he posted 72 points (26 goals, 46 assists).

The 6-foot-7 giant really stood out in the OHL Playoffs recording a team-high 11 goals, with 15 assists for 26 points in 21 matches. Unfortunately, the Generals were swept by the London Knights in the Championship Series.

“You saw what he did this year. He plays center and left wing,” Generals coach Derek Laxdall said . “He’s on the penalty kill and power play. When he’s moving his feet, he’s effective and when he gets physical or into fights, he’s really effective.”

Over the course of three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Generals and Niagara Ice Dogs, he’s registered 146 points (46 goals, 97 assists) in 200 regular season games. However, it wasn’t until he saw the success that current Rangers’ monster-sized rookie Matt Rempe is having on Broadway, that he really started seeing an NHL future.

“It’s funny, ever since Rempe has come on the scene with the Rangers, Dylan has really picked up his game,” Laxdall explained. “He sees the effectiveness of a big, heavy player and what he could do. Dylan has a great skill set. He skates well for a big man… he’s really taken a huge step in that area.”

Of course, that success comes with hard work, which has his coach excited about the future.

“Give him a lot of credit because he’s done a lot in the summer to get bigger and stronger,” Laxdall concluded. “We’re looking forward to see what he does at the next level in the American Hockey League and possibly the National Hockey League.”
