Seeing Sarah Jessica Parker Filming Sex and the City Is What Makes NYC the Greatest City in the World

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but somewhere in this small little town called New York City, Sarah Jessica Parker is running up and down sidewalks, filming the third season of this very low key, niche show called And Just Like That… And to be totally honest, the vibes have truly and utterly returned to New York in a really big way. As the filming continues, we’re just here talking about Carrie Bradshaw’s looks . As if we ever left.

In the original Sex and the City , which I watched as a girl in Indiana, mind you, Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion was a star of the show, if not the entire point of it. I learned about Manolo Blahnik and Givenchy and the Dior Saddle Bag. I, once upon a time (a few months ago), even wrote an essay on Substack about how middle brow art is the gateway drug for niche, higher brow, more specified and more singular art. I saw this in Glee and American Idol , I saw it on SNL , and I see it on Sex and the City.

Sex and the City didn’t just teach multiple generations of women about fashion, it gave window to a different scene of art and culture. And the show wouldn’t be the same show if it was set in any other city. Because the show and New York at the turn of the 21st century are synonymous with one another. That’s why I don’t take it lightly that we’re back on the streets, superstar actors filming the reboot for one of the most iconic women’s shows of our time.
