WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – We’re seeing dramatic reactions to the conviction of former president Donald Trump.

A New York jury found him guilty Thursday on 34 felony charges for his involvement in a hush money scheme.

Trump is wasting no time trying to control the narrative.

Friday morning, he gave a fiery speech where he attacked the judge, the jury, the witnesses, and the guilty verdict.

“It was a rigged trial,” said Trump.

In an angry tirade at Trump Tower, Trump repeated his claims of innocence just hours after a New York jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide a hush money payment.

“Everything involved was standard. There was no crime here,” said Trump.

Both supporters and opponents rallied at Trump Tower after the historic verdict and from the White House President Biden also reacted to the decision.

“The American principle that no one is above the law was reaffirmed,” said Biden.

He called out his political opponent for attacking the justice system.

“It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” said Biden.

The trial lasted over a month and included hours of testimony and dozens of witnesses and documents.

It took the jury just two days of deliberation to reach their decision.

“It was a little quick, but they actually did their homework. They asked for the replay of the testimony,” said Victoria Nourse of Georgetown Law School.

Georgetown Law professor Victoria Nourse gives the jurors credit.

“In the end they came to a unanimous verdict. I think that’s quite significant,” she said.

Next comes sentencing, which is scheduled for July 11th.

The penalties for these charges could range from fines to probation, to jail time.

    That’s up to the judge.

“That is a difficult question for this judge. He has a lot of discretion,” said Nourse.

The former president is promising to fight the verdict.

“We’re going to be appealing this scam,” said Trump.

The Trump team is jumping right into campaign mode. The former president went to a fundraiser last night in Manhattan and his campaign sent out an email blast calling him a “political prisoner” and asking for donations.
