Though their 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs run stalled before reaching the Cup Final, there were a slew of memorable moments for the New York Rangers in the 16 games they played.

New York won its first seven postseason games after capturing the Presidents’ Trophy for having the most points during the 2023-24 NHL regular season. The Rangers swept the Washington Capitals in the first round and ran out to a 3-0 series lead in Round 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Things got tougher from there, as the Rangers barely closed out the Hurricanes in six games. And then they let a 2-1 series lead slip away in a six-game loss to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final.

Let’s check out the top 10 moments for the New York Rangers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Jack Roslovic had a nice start to the 2024 postseason with a five-game point streak. His first goal of the playoffs was a big one, a power-play snipe from right wing that gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead at 12:26 of the second period against the Capitals in Game 2 of the first round. The Rangers went on to win 4-3. It was his first goal in 22 career Stanley Cup Playoffs games.

    9. Jacob Trouba shorthanded goal, Game 5 of 2nd round

Jacob Trouba had his ups and down in the 2024 playoffs, but his outstanding solo effort, first in his own end and then up ice, to score a shorthanded goal off the rush at 6:23 of the second period in Game 5 of the second round against Hurricanes was a thing of beauty. The goal gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead, but the Hurricanes scored four unanswered goals in the third period to force Game 6 in the series.

    8. Alexis Lafreniere scores two breakaway goals, Game 3 of ECF

Alexis Lafreniere tied for the Rangers playoff lead with eight goals. Two came in a wild 5-4 overtime win in Game 3 of the conference final against the Panthers. One was prettier than the next as Lafreniere scored twice after bursting past the Florida defense and beating goalie Sergei Bobrovksy with impressive backhand finishes.

    7. Artemi Panarin OT goal, Game 3 of 2nd round

Artemi Panarin scored five goals in the 2024 playoffs, the first four were game-winners. That includes his between-the-legs deflection of a Vincent Trocheck pass 1:43 into overtime to defeat the Hurricanes 3-2 in Game 3 of their second-round series.

Barclay Goodrow scored six goals in the playoffs after he had four the entire regular season. None was bigger than his overtime goal that capped the Rangers’ 2-1 win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Panthers at MSG. Finishing a play he started in his own end, Goodrow hammered a Vincent Trocheck pass past Sergei Bobrovsky at 14:01 of overtime to tie the series 1-1.

    5. Matt Rempe scores 1st playoff goal, Game 1 of 1st round

Matt Rempe’s storybook rookie season carried over into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and in true Hollywood fashion, the popular 6-foot-8 rookie scored New York’s first postseason goal, a slam dunk in front off a Jimmy Vesey feed at 4:17 of the first period in Game 1 of the first round against the Capitals. The Rangers went on to win the game 4-1 to start the postseason on a seven-game winning streak.

    4. Igor Shesterkin 33 saves, Game 3 of Eastern Conference Final

It’s not often a goalie can allow four goals in a playoff game and still be the reason his team won. But Igor Shesterkin was unreal against an unrelenting Panthers attack that had the Rangers under siege in the third period, a one-man show to get this game to overtime. He made five more saves in the OT before the Rangers won it on Alex Wennberg’s deflection. The 5-4 win gave the Rangers a 2-1 series lead, but it was their last victory of the postseason.

    Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

There were so many highlights for Vincent Trocheck during the 2024 playoffs. He led the Rangers with 20 points and five power-play goals, and tied for the lead with eight goals total. He also averaged 23:08 in ice time per game. His signature moment was a power-play goal at 7:24 of the second overtime at MSG, which lifted New York to a 4-3 win and 2-0 series lead in the second round against the Hurricanes.

    2. Igor Shesterkin 54 saves, Game 2 of 2nd round

Vincent Trocheck doesn’t get to play 2OT hero if Igor Shesterkin wasn’t as brilliant as he was in Game 2 against the Hurricanes in the second round. Shesterkin made 54 saves as the Rangers were outshot and out-attempted and out-chanced by a vast margin. He stopped all 17 shots he faced in the third period, allowing New York tie the game on a Chris Kreider goal, and then made 15 more saves in the overtimes.

In one of the greatest single-game performances in Rangers playoff history, Chris Kreider scored a natural hat trick in the third period to lift the Rangers to a 5-3 comeback win in Game 6 of the second round against the Hurricanes. New York trailed 3-1 before Kreider beat goalie Frederik Andersen from a bad angle at 6:43 of the third, then tied it with a power-play goal at 11:54 and scored the eventual winner off a gorgeous centering pass from Ryan Lindgren at 15:41. The win sent the Rangers into the Eastern Conference Final and evoked memories of Mark Messier’s third-period natural hat trick in the 1994 playoffs against the New Jersey Devils.
