The New York City Police Department says crime in the subway system has fallen 7 percent in the past year.

"Make no mistake, this was no accident - this administration’s investment into subway safety and the hard work of our cops are paying dividends," NYPD Transit Chief Michael Kemper said on social media.

That drop in crime includes a 20 percent reduction in robberies and an 11 percent drop in felony assaults. Crime is even down 11 percent compared to before the pandemic.

"Until every rider feels safe, we recognize that there’s still work to be done. But make no mistake about it, we are making progress and are committed to your safety," Kemper said.
