The New York Rangers have made a notable roster move, placing former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers. As a result of this, teams now have the opportunity to claim the 31-year-old forward.

This is a tough development for Goodrow, as he had an excellent postseason for the Rangers. In 16 playoff games for the Rangers, he had six goals, eight points, and a plus-3 rating. Overall, he proved to be a big part of their depth during the playoffs, but it still was not enough for him to avoid this waiver placement.

Goodrow notably had a difficult regular season for the Rangers, though. In 80 regular-season games, he had four goals, eight assists, and a minus-3 rating. It was a significant drop off from his 11 goals and 31 points in 2022-23.

With Goodrow carrying a $3.64 million cap hit until the 2026-27 season, this move is being done for money reasons. After a strong playoff performance, it will be intriguing to see if another club takes on his expensive deal. If no team bites, perhaps a buyout could be on the way for the veteran.
