    New York Bodega worker 'smashed in head with hammer by couple demanding refund for $30 hookah'

    A bodega worker in New York was allegedly "smashed in the head with a hammer" by a couple who got angry after being refused a refund for a $30 hookah .

    The mother-of-three, who was identified only as Auralia, remains in hospital after being hit in the head with a hammer in the brutal attack .

    The 41-year-old was allegedly set upon on Saturday morning on East 188th Street in the Fordham area of the Bronx by a couple known for previous thefts and vandalism at the shop, according to ABC7NY.

    The pair demanded a refund for a $30 hookah but when they were told it was too damaged to be returned, allegedly struck Auralia unconscious. Residents are now demanding enhanced security and a panic button system.

    Auralia, who has been employed by the same owners for seven years, had recently transferred to this particular store believing it to be a safer working environment . No arrests have yet been made.
