NYC Moving To Ban Cell Phones In School

New York City officials could soon ban the use of cell phones in school.

"Everyone knows that cell phones are a distraction," Mayor Eric Adams said during a news conference on Tuesday.

He didn't offer any specifics on a timeline for a possible ban or how it would be enforced. The mayor said right now the biggest issue is the objection of some parents.

"Some parents really want to have accessibility to their children throughout the day. We need to find a sweet spot," Adams said.

The push to ban phones comes just a week after Governor Kathy Hochul signed a measure that will regulate social media for children. She argues the platforms can have a negative impact on the mental health of kids.
