JUST IN: Rudy Giuliani Disbarred in New York

Former U.S. Attorney and Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani was disbarred Tuesday by a Manhattan court.

Giuliani’s law license had been suspended in New York in June 2021 after the Appellate Division found that his spreading of false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump posed a threat to public interest and the legal profession.

Following Tuesday’s decision, Giuliani has been removed entirely from New York bar rolls.

Giuliani has been embroiled in a series of legal battles and financial setbacks, including an indictment in Arizona for allegedly attempting to overturn Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.

The 80-year-old also faces multiple disciplinary actions , including in Washington D.C., where a bar discipline committee has recommended his disbarment as well as criminal charges in Georgia and Arizona for conspiracy to subvert the 2020 election results.

In December, Giuliani also filed for bankruptcy following a $148 million defamation judgment for false statements made after Trump’s failed bid to retain the presidency. He also faces a $10 million complaint from a former employee alleging sexual assault and wage theft, though these proceedings were stayed. Giuliani denies the allegations.
