NEW YORK (PIX11) — Summer in the city means to travel and the beach and for many, the subway is the main form of transportation.

The MTA wants to meet demand for summer travel on the B, D, J, M, and Z lines on the weekdays and the Nos. 3 and 5 lines on the weekends.

The agency claims these subway lines have seen growth in ridership and have been adding service on other lines throughout the past year.

Progress has already been made to expand services this summer. On the weekend, the Rockaway Park Shuttle will be expanded to 10-car trains and extend routes to Rockaway Boulevard through Sept. 3.

Adding just one train an hour can decrease wait time.

Trains on the B, D, J and M lines should arrive every eight minutes for the enhanced midday and evening weekday service.

Weekend increases on the Nos. 3 and 5 lines are scheduled to start on July 6.

The MTA said ridership is about 80% of what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. Ridership has been higher in the evenings.
