Sonja Morgan has officially sold her New York City townhouse. While letting go was a bit emotional, she felt much lighter after officially selling the property at auction last May for $4.45 million.
She initially tried selling the townhouse, but it took quite a bit longer than she planned. Eventually, she decided to put it up for auction. “Auction it,” she said finally. “I want out. I want a finite time. I am out.”
“Every time I would list it, I would rent it because I had to pay the bills every month,” Sonja shared. “I sold the furniture. I’m feeling much lighter. And I figure I’m going to eat more, sleep more, and get laid more,” she concluded while fellow guests applauded.
That’s one way of celebrating a sale. However, Sonja did let go of her townhouse for half of what she purchased it for in 1998 with her husband, John Morgan. The home was $9.1 million at the time and she originally listed it for $9.95 million in 2013.
Bittersweet goodbye
Sonja shared that she’ll always be a New Yorker at heart. But, at the same time, selling the home was a weight off her shoulders. She shared that it was a relief that she can now travel with her Sonja in Your City Improv Comedy tour without having to rent the townhouse.
“I’ve been a dedicated Mother providing stability and financial support at my daughter’s childhood home. And now, it’s time to do me like so many empty nesters,” she concluded.
After the sale, Sonja shared a video on her social media showing her moving her chairs through storage. She added the caption, “Feeling lighter already. Protecting these beautiful chairs in storage. #freedom.”
Looks like the word “lighter” is her favorite way of describing how she’s feeling.
