HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) — The William Shakespeare play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is getting remixed in Harlem.

Seeing a Shakespeare production in a park is a summer tradition in New York City. The Classical Theatre of Harlem has performed at Marcus Garvey Park for 12 years.

“We needed to have a production that was about joy and we wanted a love letter to Harlem,” said Ty Jones, the producing artistic director.

The amphitheater at the park will showcase “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” set to the theme of the Harlem Renaissance. You’ll see jazz-inspired dancing and period costumes.

“As a choreographer, you say to me ‘Harlem Renaissance’ and it opens up a whole world for us to pull from. It’s inspired by Harlem and remixed as Harlem does,” said choreographer Dell Howlett.

Click here for free reservations to the performances, which begin at 8:30 p.m., weather permitting. After opening this weekend, the production is set to run Tuesday through Sunday until July 28.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem is celebrating its 25th anniversary and hopes to continue its mission with future events. The professional, non-profit company has a mission to bring the arts to the community.

Tickets have been reserved at record levels for the outside show.

The Public Theater is also known for its Shakespeare performances in Central Park. But due to construction, there are no shows this summer at the Delacorte Theater.
