School might be out, but kids still need a place to go - whether they are being watched by a loved one or attending a camp. A partnership between New York City Public Schools and the Department of Youth and Community Development is another option out there for kids this summer, and it is free. Through enrichment programs, academic lessons and outdoor activities, students get everything they would get out of a day camp, plus they get to avoid the "summer slump," as Principal Yocasta Miller calls it. The summer is also a time when food insecurity for students across the city becomes more apparent with schools closed. Summer Rising saves kids from facing hunger in the summer by providing them with breakfast, lunch and plenty of snacks. Brian Sadowski, assistant principal at Brooklyn's P.S. 203, says every kid leaves full and always with the option to take a snack or two home. Though enrollment closed months ago, there are still some seats available for Summer Rising. Click the link to find those open seats
