Sabrina Ionescu Receives Technical Foul For Emotional Outburst During Caitlin Clark, Fever Loss

It took Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever four tries before they were finally able to defeat the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA season.

But they managed to secure that elusive win on Saturday, rallying from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat New York, 83-78.

Both Clark and Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu produced excellent performance on Saturday.

Clark secured the first triple-double in WNBA history, while Ionescu finished the game with 22 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

But Ionescu also cost her team in the second half when she briefly let her emotions get the best of her.

After making a floater during the third quarter, Ionescu turned around and began screaming at one of the game's referees.

Seconds later, Ionescu (who clearly thought she got fouled during the shot) received a technical foul for the emotional outburst.

It isn't clear what exactly Ionescu said to the referee. But it was clearly enough for the referee to blow the whistle immediately, which cost Ionescu and her team a free throw.

This ultimately didn't change the game's outcome, since the Fever won by five points.

But Saturday's contest was clearly an emotional one for both sides.
