McDonald’s is extending the offer to Saturday by allowing people to claim a free order of fries through its app, with no purchase required.

The United States eats more than 4 billion pounds of french fries a year, according to a study .

    The French Fry

Although many people might think french fries came from France due to the name, most historians believe the fried food originated in Belgium. “French” refers to the style of cut, not the country of France, according to the Associated Press.

According to National Geographic , an American revolutionary, Thomas Jefferson, introduced the tasty treat to the states.

Though typically eaten with ketchup, some other favorite dipping sauces for fries are:

    • Ranch dressing
    • Vinegar
    • Mayonnaise
    • Honey mustard
    • Cheese
