Miles of beach were closed to swimmers until the coast was deemed clear.
Those beaches also reopened an hour later.
The sightings come as beachgoers flocked to the ocean to beat the city heat. Temperatures reached 89 degrees — and felt like 92 degrees — on Thursday, according to Fox Weather .
No injuries were reported and NYPD said it will continue to monitor the waters for sharks or for swimmers in distress.
“Our goal is to keep the public safe and with new and improving drone technology we are able to do that,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry said.
