After 10 years of being a hidden gem on W47th Street, Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen has spiced things up by moving to a new spot on 9th Avenue. Now you can enjoy your favorite Mexican dishes with a front-row seat at their dine-in counter, watching the chefs work their magic!

The restaurant at 673 9th Avenue (bw W46/47th St) is also home to Stamina Grill & Juice Bar, operated by one of the partners from Fuel Grill & Juice Bar which used to be just up the block. When Stamina’s lease at their Financial District location was up during COVID, they decided to join Al Horno at their W47th Street location.
Al Horno’s menu covers classic Mexican dishes including burritos, tacos, tortas and quesadillas — all with a healthy twist like low-fat sour cream and quinoa.
If you aren’t in the mood for Mexican fare, Stamina’s menu includes a wide range of fresh squeezed juices, wraps, sandwiches, soups and “guilt free pizzas” — low-fat mozzarella, low sodium tomato sauce on a whole wheat, high fiber crust.
Manager Jabril Zakari told W42ST they are “really hoping to get a lot of people coming in,” adding that they recently downsized to just three locations from a peak of seven prior to COVID.
Being situated on the main strip of Hell’s Kitchen is a definite advantage for them, especially since their W47th Street business relied heavily on delivery orders. When asked about third party delivery services, Jabril said, “You’d be surprised nowadays — a lot of those companies just like to use DoorDash or Uber, but we have our own drivers that have been with us for like 10 years.”

They are not the first eatery to make a move in Hell’s Kitchen this year. In April, Wondee Siam moved a few doors down from their longtime location to a larger, corner spot at 9th Avenue and W52nd Street.
Al Horno has been on my personal takeout rotation for years after a neighborhood friend recommended them. My favorite items are the fajita quesadilla with steak and a side of grilled chicken, which I use to make more quesadillas at home the rest of the week.
And while it’s not currently listed on the menu, pop inside to get a slice of their delicious tres leches cake.

To celebrate their move, Al Horno is running a promotion throughout the summer for a free 12oz smoothie with any plate or burrito purchase.
Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen and Stamina Grill & Juice Bar are currently open from 9am to 8:45pm Monday through Friday and from 11am to 8:45pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
