The New York Rangers are reportedly close to striking a deal with defenseman Braden Schneider.

According to Vince Mercogliano of lohud.com, the Rangers are ‘making progress’ on a bridge deal with Schneider who is a restricted free agent.

“Word is that they’re making progress with Schneider on a bridge deal (likely two or three years) for an average annual value in the range of $2.5 million, according to one person with knowledge of the situation who spoke to lohud.com, part of the USA TODAY Network, under the condition of anonymity,” Mercogliano wrote.

This past season, the 22-year-old recorded five goals, 14 assists and 19 points in 82 games while averaging 15:53 minutes.

Schneider’s role continues to increase each year and he is already a critical piece for the Rangers’ defensive core at such a young age.

Through the next couple of seasons, Schneider should only improve, so if he is payed in the range of $2.5 million as reported, that would be a very team-friendly deal for New York.

The Rangers also still need to finalize a contract with defenseman Ryan Lindgren who recently filed for arbitration.
