    Woman escapes rape attempt in UES as assailant makes getaway on motorized scooter

    A woman escaped a would-be rapist on the Upper East Side, who then made his getaway on a motorized scooter, police said.

    The victim, 27, was in front of 349 East 76th St. around 11:45 p.m. Friday when she was accosted, authorities said.

    Cops responding to a 911 call of an “assault in progress” found the distraught victim, who was then taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

    Unconfirmed reports said the brave victim was aided by at least one good Samaritan and sought refuge nearby.

    The disturbing incident happened as rape across the city spiked 11%, according to the latest NYPD data.

    The unidentified attacker sped off westbound on East 76th Street on a “two-wheel scooter,” an NYPD spokesperson told The Post.

    There have been no arrests.

    “We have an influx of people from all over the world that’s contributing to the crime. I think the mayor has to do a better job of policing the streets,” said a man who gave his name as Chris as he worked out at a nearby New York Sports Club. “You can’t underestimate the safety of New Yorkers nowadays.

    The neighborhood is “typically safe,” a front desk employee at the gym told The Post.

    “For something like that to happen, it’s pretty surprising,” the gym worker said. “It’s scary, you know. You just got to be careful.”
