Residents in the 1116 and 1114 building on Flatbush Avenue are now in the care of the Red Cross after a fire spread throughout neighboring homes and businesses Tuesday evening. No one was injured as a result of the blaze, though a 99 Cents store on the first floor of the property was damaged, as were neighboring units. A litter of puppies, as well as three dogs were quickly removed from the unit during the fire, which residents say took less than two minutes to engulf their home in flames. Resident Tameka King says her and her son Isiah at one point realized they were two animals short, but were able to rescue them with the help of fire fighters. "The mother and one of the babies were still inside. So we were panicking, and we had no idea if they were going to be able to get them out or not,” she said. Tenants say they believe the fire was started by an air conditioner, however, the FDNY is still working to determine the cause. "
