OLEAN, NY — Early pitching struggles for the Oilers proved to be too much for Olean's offense to overcome in an 11-7 loss to the Dansville Gliders Tuesday.

The Oilers entered the third inning tied 2-2, and then the Gliders took control of the game. Starting pitcher Caleb Wurzer and relief pitcher Brendan Hamlin combined to allow seven earned runs in the inning.

On offense, the Oilers scored a run in seven different innings but failed to get more than one run in any of those innings.

The five different pitchers used in the game did slow down the scoring of the Gliders, only allowing two more runs for the remainder of the game.

The loss drops the Oilers to fourth in the West Division of the New York Collegiate Baseball League and moves the Gliders to third. With four games remaining of the season, the Oilers can fall no further than fourth but can also advance to only third. The remaining four games will all be on the road, with three games against second-place Genesee and one against first-place Hornell.

The Oilers travel to Houghton on Wednesday for a doubleheader against the Genesee Rapids. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
