Foo Fighters explain why they had to cut show short: 'No safe way to continue'

Unfortunately for Foo Fighters fans in NYC, the band was forced to cut their Citi Field set short on Wednesday night (7/17) due to severe weather -- and to be clear, if Dave Grohl thinks something is unsafe you better take cover.

“We are so disappointed that we were unable to play our full set for tonight’s fantastic crowd at Citi Field,” the Foos said on their social channels after the event was halted. “But the safety of our fans, the crew and everyone working in the stadium comes first, so when it was determined that there was no safe way to continue the show in this dangerous weather, we had no choice but to call it a night.”

After getting through about half of their set, the band was forced to exit the stage just 13 songs in, with frontman Dave Grohl warning fans about the inclement weather before "Learn To Fly" saying, “There’s some lightning and s*** like that,” and promising to play “as much as we can until someone says it’s not safe.” During the intro to "Everlong," the call was made .

The venue subsequently posted a message to X at 10:30PM announcing, “Unfortunately due to the continued presence of lightning in the area, tonight’s show has concluded. Please exit the venue and have a safe night.”

“We’re grateful for every second we were able to play for you and looking forward to seeing you again — maybe as soon as Friday!” the Foos concluded their statement regarding Wednesday night.
