NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s National Ice Cream Day, and the weather in New York and New Jersey lends itself to an outdoor scoop.

The tri-state area will hit the mid-80s Sunday with parts of New Jersey climbing closer to 90 degrees.

Some showers are expected by the afternoon and evening. Humidity will decrease throughout the day Sunday, becoming more comfortable by the afternoon.

The beginning of the work week will prove cooler than last, with temperatures remaining in the low- to mid-80s. By Thursday, temperatures will jump back up closer to 90 degrees and the air will become stormy again.
