CNN’s Kaitlan Collins was surprised to see former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani sitting in first class on a recent flight to Milwaukee while the disbarred lawyer owes approximately $150 million to creditors.

“Rudy Giuliani sat in front of me in a first class seat on the way to the RNC, which was curious given he owes approximately $150 million to creditors and has been in bankruptcy court. It turns out ‘My Pillow Guy’ Mike Lindell bankrolled the trip,” Collins wrote on X on Tuesday.

Collins, along with Tierney Sneed , Katelyn Polantz , and Sara Murray , were first to report that Giualini’s trip to the Republican National Convention was paid for by a media company owned by Mike Lindell, best known as the founder of MyPillow and as one of the most vocal conspiracy theorists when it comes to the 2020 presidential election.

Giuliani’s lawyer confirmed his trip was paid for by FrankSpeech in a filing with a bankruptcy court. The former New York City mayor owes more than $150 million to creditors, most of it stemming from a lawsuit filed by two Georgia election workers Giuliani was found to have defamed.

Lindell filed for bankruptcy protection in December, but he’s faced complications. Last month, he was scolded by a judge and creditors for providing “incomplete information about his finances” and missing filing deadlines.

Giuliani used the election workers to promote conspiracy theories about ballot stuffing and fraudulent counting in the 2020 election. Giuliani represented Trump on a number of these issues, and he was disbarred by a New York court this year after having been suspended for spreading false claims about the election.

Lindell would not confirm how much was paid for Giuliani’s trip, but he said the former mayor is an employee of his company. Lindell has also faced backlash for his false claims about the 2020 election. Lindell has continued to insist there was fraud in the election, basing most of his conspiracies around Dominion voting machines. He was sued for defamation by Dominion, which has never been found to have been behind any election fraud.

Lindell said Giuliani will be a host for his media company and was hired at the beginning of July.

“It’s not like he’s living the life of luxury,” Lindell said. “We’ve got a company thing where that’s just what we do.”
