New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season. View Thibodeau’s contract details below.

    Tom Thibodeau Contract Details

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks and Thibodeau have agreed on an extension that keeps him as New York’s coach for the next four seasons.

Per SNY’s Ian Begley, Thibodeau’s extension number nears $10 million, the market for annual coaching salaries on new deals.

Thibodeau has been one of the driving forces behind the Knicks’ resurgence. In four seasons as the head coach in New York, Thibodeau has accumulated 175 wins in the regular season, the fifth most in Knicks’ history.

More importantly, Thibodeau has led the Knicks to the playoffs in three of his last four seasons, including two consecutive trips to the conference semifinals.

Last year, the Knicks went 50-32, which is only the second time since the 2000-2021 season that New York had at least 50 wins.

Thibodeau won Coach of the Year in 2020-2021 for the second time. The veteran head coach won Coach of the Year in 2011 with the Chicago Bulls.

New York Knicks Continue Their Fantastic Offseason

After falling short in the conference semifinals a season ago, the Knicks have improved drastically this offseason.

In June 2024, the Knicks acquired Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic, Shake Milton (sign-and-trade), Mamadi Diakite, four unprotected first-round draft picks (2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031), a protected 2025 first-round pick via the Milwaukee Bucks, the right to swap a 2028 first-round pick for the Knicks’ 2028 first-round pick, and the Nets’ 2025 second-round pick.

That same month, the Knicks signed versatile two-way forward OG Anunoby to a five-year, $212.5 million contract.

The Knicks also re-signed star Jalen Brunson to a four-year, $156.5 million contract. If Bruons re-signed next offseason, he could have earned $113 million more guaranteed.

The biggest loss for the Knicks was the departure of center Isaiah Hartenstein, who signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
