Billy Joel’s family guide: Meet his daughters, wife and exes

It’s still rock and roll to him.

Billy Joel is winding down his historic 10-year Madison Square Garden residency on Thursday in New York City.

The legendary piano man , 75, is also a family man, with three daughters and some famous ex-wives.

His youngest two daughters, Della Rose, 8, and Remy Anne, 6, even came out on the stage to sing a rendition of the holiday classic “Jingle Bells” at Madison Square Garden in December.

The residency has sold over 1.9 million tickets since its first show in Jan. 27, 2014, MSG confirms to The Post.

“I’m kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did,” Joel said in a press release when he announced the residency was coming to an end.

“My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but 10 years, 150 shows — all right already! I do remember the first time we played Madison Square Garden, it was the pinnacle of my career. I thought, ‘My God, I’m headlining Madison Square Garden.’ Everybody in the world knows when you play the Garden, it’s not just New York,” he continued. “To our audience, I want to thank them for coming to our shows for this long. It’s hard to end, even at 150 lifetime shows. I just want to thank everyone for the wonderful thing that’s happened here.”

While playing the historic venue, Joel never sold tickets for the front row — a tradition for the musician.

“We never sell front rows. We hold those tickets at just about every concert,” he told Billboard in 2014. “For years, the scalpers got the tickets and would scalp the front row for ridiculous amounts of money. Our tickets are cheap, under $100, some in the $80s, the highest is about $150.”

Here’s everything to know about Joel’s family.

Joel’s first wife was business manager Elizabeth Weber. The couple was married from 1973 to 1982. At the time that Joel met Weber, she was married to Jon Small, the drummer of his first band.

“She wasn’t like a lot of the other girls I knew at that time who had taken home ec and cooking classes,” Joel told author Fred Schruers in the book, “Billy Joel: The Definitive Biography.”

“She was … intelligent and not afraid to speak her mind, but could also be seductive. Almost like a European-type — not a typical American girl.”

When Small discovered the affair and Weber took off, Joel said he became depressed.

This led to him overdosing on Nembutal.

“The next thing I remember, I woke up in the hospital and learned that they had pumped my stomach,” Joel said in “The Definitive Biography.”

After he and Weber got back together, she became his manager.

“She’s Got a Way,” “The Stranger,” and “She’s Always a Woman” were inspired by her, and he wrote “Just The Way You Are” as a gift to her.

In the book, Joel explained how he had a motorcycle accident and smashed both his hands. When Weber came to visit him in the hospital, he recalled her asking him to sign everything he had over to her.

“I may have acted like an idiot a time or two, but I’m not a complete idiot,” Joel said. “That really killed it right there and then.”

Joel’s second wife was supermodel Christie Brinkley. They were married from 1985 to 1994.

Joel first met the “Uptown Girl” when he vacationed in St. Barts.

“I was trying to act cool, but somewhere inside me the kid from Hicksville was going, ‘Yesssssss!’” Joel recalled in “The Definitive Biography.”

She inspired him to write the album “An Innocent Man.”

Joel and Brinkley welcomed his first child, daughter Alexa Ray Joel, the same year they married.

After a show at Nassau Coliseum in 1993, Joel opted to stay at a nearby hotel rather than make the 90-minute drive home. One of Joel’s band members reportedly told Brinkley that he was having an affair , which Joel denied. Their marriage crumbled from there.

They have an amicable relationship post-divorce. In 2015, when Joel married his fourth and current wife, Alexis Roderick, Brinkley wrote on Instagram , “Congratulations to the glowing bride and groom. And to my daughter, Alexa, who has a wonderful friend in Alexis! Wishing the growing family every happiness!”

Joel’s third wife was cookbook author and former “Top Chef” host Katie Lee, 42. They were married from 2004 to 2009.

When they married, Joel was 55, and Lee was 23 — just four years older than his oldest daughter.

The two tied the knot in October 2004 at his home in Oyster Bay, LI, after they had been dating for a year. Donald Trump and Alec Baldwin were both guests at their wedding.

“I don’t want to just be Billy Joel’s wife,” Lee told Page Six in 2008.

“I’ve always wanted to work. It doesn’t matter who I’m married to — I’m going to have my own job and my own identity,” she explained.

“If I didn’t work, they’d say, ‘She just sits around and spends his money and eats bonbons,’” Lee added. “Sometimes I feel like Dorothy and I have to keep reminding myself I’m not in Kansas anymore. I didn’t grow up wealthy. This is all new to me.”

When they separated, the exes said in a statement : “This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy and Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other.”

In an October 2014 profile for the New Yorker , Joel recalled meeting his fourth and current wife, Alexis Roderick, 41, a former Morgan Stanley executive, at a restaurant in Huntington, New York.

When she came back to his house, Roderick declined his offer to play her a song — which he ignored.

“It was like he couldn’t not be ‘Billy Joel’ at that moment,” Roderick told the outlet.

“I may have got a little fresh,” Joel replied.

Roderick is an accomplished equestrian.

The couple revealed in April 2015 that they were expecting their first child together. They had a surprise wedding in Long Island on July 4 that year. Former governor of New York Andrew Cuomo officiated their nuptials .

Joel had his oldest daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, 38, with Christie Brinkley.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as she released her first single, “For All My Days,” in 2008. She has since released several more songs, including a cover of her dad’s 1977 track “Just the Way You Are.”

“My parents tried to shield me from how famous they were when I was growing up,” she told New York Magazine in 2010. “When everybody said ‘Hello, Billy! Hello, Christie!’ — I just thought they were popular.”

In a June 2006 interview with Cho rus & Verse , she said, “I definitely believe that music is something that is in my blood … I grew up listening to my dad write songs at the piano for hours, and watching him put the pieces of his ideas together for so many years gave me a unique inside-peek into the songwriting process.”

In 2010, she got a nose job . “Alexa had breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum and decided to correct the appearance of her nose at the same time,” a rep told Page Six at the time.

Since 2018, she’s been engaged to restaurateur Ryan Gleason.

Joel and Roderick welcomed their first child and the singer’s second, Della Rose, 8, in 2015.

In a July 2018 concert at Madison Square Garden, Joel dedicated “Don’t Ask Me Why” to Della.

“It’s her favorite!” he said.

Joel and Roderick welcomed their second child and his third, Remy Anne Joel, 6, in 2017.

In October 2023, Joel celebrated Remy’s 6th birthday with an Instagram post.

“Happy Birthday to our Remy Roo. We love the person you have become,” he wrote in the caption. “You definitely broke the mold. Happy 6th Birthday, sweet girl!”

In 2019, Joel opened up to Rolling Stone about being a dad to young children in his 70s.

“I take (them) to school and one of the other parents will go, ‘Oh, your granddaughter’s so cute,’” he said.

“I still love being a dad. I didn’t know that I would be a father again at this age, but I’m glad I am,” Joel added. “They keep you young.”
