Lawsuit Seeks To Enforce Congestion Pricing

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander has organized a pair of lawsuits aimed at Governor Kathy Hochul over her decision to put a hold on congestion pricing.

The $15 toll to travel south of 60th Street in Manhattan was supposed to go into effect last month, but Hochul decided to postpone it because of the harm it would cause to New Yorkers and to the city's recovery. While the decision was cheered by commuters, critics say it is robbing the MTA of money it needs to make needed upgrades and repairs.

“When Governor Hochul halted congestion pricing last month, she singlehandedly deprived millions of subway and bus riders of $15 billion worth of transit improvements like more frequent trains, new subway lines, faster buses and greater accessibility — and she also violated two state laws and the state constitution,” Lander said in a statement.
