NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 15-year-old boy was found dead Friday on subway tracks in Queens, and police are investigating whether or not the teen died as a result of subway surfing.

Police and EMS responded to a 5:27 p.m. 911 call reporting the incident at Beach 90th Street in Far Rockaway, where the 15-year-old was found on the northbound S tracks.

The teen had severe trauma to the head and was already dead when first responders arrived, police said.

Now, the medical examiner will do an autopsy to determine the 15-year-old’s official cause of death.

The train tracks in the Far Rockaway neighborhood are elevated, and police suspect that the teen may have been subway surfing before he died, though the circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.

NYC Transit and the MTA began “ Ride Inside, Stay Alive ” in September, a campaign taking a peer-to-peer approach with messaging that warns young people about the dangers of subway surfing.

Last month, a 13-year-old boy died and a 15-year-old boy was critically injured in separate subway surfing incidents in the Bronx.

According to police, there have been more than 100 subway surfing incidents reported to the NYPD this year, two of which proved fatal.
