Family alleges home attendant assaulted 95-year-old grandmother

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The family of a 95-year-old woman alleges a home attendant abused their beloved grandmother. PIX11 News reached out to the NYPD, who confirmed the victim had been assaulted in her Harlem home.

The victim’s granddaughters, Michelle and Tiffany Mitchell, recounted over the phone the day their grandmother was assaulted.

The 95-year-old grandmother received injuries to her head and right shoulder, police confirmed.

“I was traveling on the Amtrak to Maryland,” said Michelle Mitchell. “My grandmother accidentally didn’t hang up the phone, and I heard the home attendant screaming in the background.”

Michelle says she called her sister, Tiffany, who called the home attendant to ask what was happening.

According to the family, the home attendant allegedly stated she was trying to change the bedsheets, but their grandmother would not let her. Tiffany asked the home attendant not to yell at her grandmother and to call should further issues arise.

Sometime later, the family says the victim called back, and the home attendant was screaming in the background. The family looked at their Ring Camera, which provides surveillance footage, and it showed the home attendant allegedly assaulting their beloved grandmother.

The sisters called 911 but said officers went to the wrong address. By the time officers responded to the victim’s address on Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard, the assailant had fled.

The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Beth Isreal Hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries. Police say she is expected to recover. Her family reveals the emotional toll the assault has taken, with their loved one now battling PTSD and Anxiety.

“If we didn’t have those cameras there, who knows what could’ve happened,” Michelle Mitchell said. The family also expressed their disappointment, stating that Medflyt at Home, the company where the home attendant allegedly worked, showed no concern for their grandmother’s well-being.

PIX11 News attempted to contact Medflyt at Home, but the company could not immediately be reached for comment.
